What Happened in 2019?

In July 2019, the newly appointed TTD Trust Board Chairman YV Subba Reddy announced that the L1, L2, and L3 system would be abolished. The decision was implemented with immediate effect.

Why was it discontinued?

  • The system had long faced accusations of discrimination against common devotees
  • A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) had been filed against the VIP darshan system
  • The Chief Minister had directed TTD to prioritise common pilgrims by allowing them more darshan time

The official announcement:"We have taken a decision to abolish the existing List 1, 2 and 3 Darshan ticket issuing system from Wednesday onwards and no tickets will be issued henceforth". The chairman stated that the practice of segregating devotees based on lists would be stopped, though there would still be a provision for visiting dignitaries.

What Replaced L3 Darshan?

Today, TTD operates a simplified VIP Break Darshan system. While the L1, L2, and L3 classifications are no longer officially used, the processes remain similar.

1. Recommendation-Based VIP Darshan

This is the direct successor to the old L3 system. It allows access through official recommendation letters from authorised public representatives.
